Chemical Exchange Saturation Transfer (CEST) MRI agents represent a very peculiar class of probes in virtue of their ability to generate a contrast that can be switched on “at will” through the excitation of a specific frequency that corresponds to the NMR resonance of the exchangeable spins of the agent.
This unique contrast mechanism opens novel and still in part unexplored routes for improving the already high potential of MRI in the biomedical field. The possibility to perform a MRI exam without acquiring a pre-contrast image or to visualize different probes in the same region of interest are only a couple of examples for illustrating the peculiar properties of such agents.
In spite of the outstanding results obtained so far at the pre-clinical stage, the clinical translation needs to be accelerated.
This workshop, promoted by the Molecular Imaging Center of the University of Torino, is aimed at networking for the first time all the research groups, both academic and industrial, that over the world are involved in the development of this class of probes at the different levels (probe optimization, hardware and software development, set-up of in vivo experiments,…). In addition, the workshop intends to disseminate the knowledge acquired so far to any researchers who wish to join us in this fascinating challenge.
